It was 1956 when Renato Carosone - a legendary name in Italian pop music and Neapolitan songs - released "Tu vuo' fa' l'Americano" ("You wanna play American") which is about an Italian guy acting in imitation of American myths, trying to look cool, dancing to rock'n'roll, playing baseball, but in the end taking money from his mother's purse when in need of cigarettes. Wink

More than 50 years later, surprisingly, Carosone's track (which had appeared in many countries and versions and was probably his biggest hit) has reappeared as part of "We No Speak Americano" - a worldwide dance hit by Australian dj combo Yolanda Be Cool & DCUP.

Their version topped the charts again in several countries.

Napoli (Naples)'s own musical hero, Renato Carosone (1920-2001) brought innovation to the rich musical tradition of his native town and was a seminal figure for Italian pop music. His collaboration with drummer Gegè Di Giacomo and Dutch guitarist Peter Van Wood led to the formation of a legendary trio; after the breakup of this formation, Carosone, always with Di Giacomo by his side, continued producing new music with a small orchestra. His song "Torero" reached no.1 in the US charts and was an international hit.

The super-classic 1956 hit "Tu Vuo' Fa' l'Americano" has been newly remastered and just re-released through all major digital outlets.

Enjoy the original song, sung in Neapolitan!
